Is this the liberation for which hundreds of American lives have been lost and
billions of dollars spent? Is George Bush so bored now with rolling back the rights and freedoms of American women that he's taking his show on the road---the State-Sanctioned Misogyny 2004 World Tour? And is there any way that this decision by the Governing Council will end up being anything less than a nightmare for Iraq and for America as well? The U.S. Director of Reconstruction and Humanitarian Assistance in Iraq must give his approval to this decision. Now there's a lose-lose situation if ever there was one: Bremer says yes and eleven million Iraqi women get all-expense-paid trips back to the Middle Ages on the American taxpayer's dime; Bremer says no and the Arab world crows with glee that at long last they have proof positive that the United States is a colonialist oppressor of the Muslim people---and then Iraq implements Sharia law anyway in less than six months when the process of handing over Iraq to Iraqi control is complete.
What in the name of all that is good are we trying to accomplish by being in Iraq, again?
